Me, 1990, natural hair color, with a perm curl that felt like a lion’s mane. Going through a divorce, I was just 18. Living in rural Sonoma County, dairy cow country, I had just read Diet for a New America by my friend Ocean’s dad, John Robbins.
.
Growing up vegetarian, the book pushed me to go further, I went vegan. Little did I know then that the milk protein casein was also contributing to my physical challenges.
.
By the time I took this photo I was only 90 lbs (significantly underweight). I was still breastfeeding my second baby in a year, but my thyroid was on tilt from a few years of extreme stress. I was going hard for wheat, sadly, I would be undiagnosed celiac for another twenty years.
.
I look back at old photos and marvel at what this body has endured. I am so grateful for the resilience of my ancestors. It literally takes my breath away what they have survived for me to be here.
.
A decade later I was still struggling with my weight. But by then I nearly doubled in size to 170lbs. I was so desperate I allowed my endocrinologist to convince me to radiate my thyroid. I had not yet learned to trust my intuition around eating. Still eating foods that were toxic for me because I was trying to fit into an ethical framework around eating.
.
Three years ago when I learned to let go of the judgement of what I put in my mouth — when I based it on how my body felt after I ate, a behavioral psychology foundation of WildFit — I was able to let go of the food addictions and find my balance, effortlessly.
.
No more yo-yo. No more starving. No more obsessing with a scale. My ancestors are guiding me and my intuition. I’m right where I need to be.
.
How do you feel about your menus? Are they feeding your emotions, but leaving you hungry, or crappy?
.
Do you know what foods your ancestors ate traditionally, in seasons?

30 years ago I was in labor with my first daughter. It was also a Capricorn moon, like my own, when I get sh*t done. I labored for 38 hours. I was 17 and treated like a child. Unable to move, strapped to a birth monitor with artificial oxytocin (pitocin) for the last 15 hours.

She was a caulbearer (born in the veil), but the doctor removed it as she was emerging. A very sensitive soul. She was rushed not to my arms, but to a recovery room with lights to alleviate jaundice.
The most visceral of those fight or flight responses I’d become so accustom to happened as I was leaving the hospital. A hospitalized junkie had escaped into the elevator where I held my newborn in the wheelchair. Jittery, itching and talking to himself, I was ready for anything.

The injustices we went through birthed a time in my life of ending cycles of abuse. Married far too young, pregnant again within a half dozen weeks (some say related to caul births). The next birth would be at home on my terms, interrupting old patterns became my life.

What seems like an injustice can become a gift, even a rebirth, as we learn to shift the narrative, end the old patterns.

Eight months later I took a blow to my pregnant belly which awakened my inner jaguar mama. My own twin sister was taken from me in the womb through male-violence. Never again.

Learning nervous system reset from PTSD, or recovering from a lifetime of trauma may take years. Talk therapy, Buddhist meditation, bodywork, altered states of consciousness through psychedelics, and breathwork all required precious time. Though the last two much less time.

Kundalini Yoga is a middle path for me, using breathwork to reset the nervous system, even create altered states without the intensity of psychedelic medicines.
Transformation through conscious pattern interruptions happens much quicker than traditional forms of therapy and meditations. The work is multifaceted, occurring on physical, mental, emotional, spiritual, and subtle realms through breathing, movement and meditation.

Stay tuned for my upcoming Shakti School — “Breath of the Cosmos, a Meditation for Radical Self-Love” — we will explore the facets of Kundalini Yoga

Kundalini yoga is not as well-known as other forms of yoga such as Hatha, nor as old, but there is a growing interest in it because of the interest in it as not just a good workout, but a way of transforming body, mind and spirit.
💫
Yoga has been used as part of traditional Indian medicine for more than 5,000 years. Some Mayans believe the technology was delivered to India from Snake Island (Central American region, including Atlantis). Many Yogic words share similarities in Mayan languages. The Mayans have studied koyopa, their term for Kundalini. 💫
Kundalini in the East has been used for more than 1,200. It was developed in India with a specific goal in mind, to tap into the latent energy within us all. This is known as Kundalini, which means coiled. The energy is pictured as being coiled around the base of the spine. The coil also refers to your restrained potential, which Kundalini yoga can help awaken so you can live your best life.
💫
The question of whether or not it works depends on your definition. In reference to being a great form of physical health, folx would agree it can make you incredibly strong in a short period of time.
💫
The word yoga means union, a union of body, mind and spirit. Ancient wisdom tells us that a healthy mind produces a healthy body, and vice versa. Kundalini is used to heal by balancing the energy centers in the body, including the 7 chakras most known. Chakra means wheel. The poses, movement, meditation and chanting are designed to move the coiled energy up the central channel that connects the chakras to one another.
💫
The sets of poses, or kriyas, have been shown to help with breathing problems, depression, anxiety, and more, enhancing mood, reducing stress, and helping people transform their lives. Some kriyas have been scientifically studied to show improvements in neuroplasticity, cognitive function, and increased flow states.
💫
Kundalini yoga works if you set your intention and then track it for 40 Days. To improve your relationships with loved ones, try a kriya for opening the heart and see how much smoother your live becomes. The one for addiction is life-changing. (Continues in comments)

Love this artist. Her ceramic rainbows are delightful too.
🌈
But this piece takes me back to California Pacific Coast trips as a kid. Magnificent moments of collecting seashells and driftwood.
